Excess dopamine:

- Agitation and anxiety: Excess dopamine can cause an increase in agitation and anxiety. Affected people can experience a constant state of restlessness, racing thoughts and even paranoia, which can significantly affect their quality of life.
- Impulsive behavior: Excessive dopamine levels can lead to difficulties in controlling impulses, which shows itself in quick and risky decisions taken without considering the consequences. This impulsive behavior can affect interpersonal relationships and can lead to dangerous situations.
Dopamine deficiency:
- Parkinson’s disease: A severe dopamine deficiency in the brain region called the substantia nigra is directly responsible for the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. The role of dopamine in psychiatric conditions
Dopamine plays an essential role in the development and manifestation of certain psychiatric conditions, directly influencing mood, behavior and the perception of reality. For example, schizophrenia is often associated with an excess of dopamine in certain brain circuits, which can lead to severe symptoms such as auditory and visual hallucinations, delusions and disorganized thinking. These patients can experience a distorted reality, which makes it difficult to adapt to everyday life and to interpersonal relationships. On the other hand, low dopamine levels are frequently found in depressive disorders and in seasonal affective disorder. The symptoms of these conditions include a loss of interest in activities that previously brought joy, persistent sadness, fatigue and difficulties in concentrating.
